Launching a PWC
Launching a PWC can be a frustrating experience. This is especially true if others behind you want to use the dock, creating a situation in which you are unintentionally inconveniencing other people. Luckily, the experts at Riva Motorsports have created this helpful guide to ensure that your next PWC launching experience goes as smoothly as possible.
Practice in Advance
Most people find that aligning the PWC’s trailer is the most difficult part of the launching process. That’s why we recommend that you find an empty parking lot or other safe space to practice launching in peace. Use cones to approximate the launching area. With enough practice, you’ll be able to launch your PWC much more quickly and much more smoothly.
Arrive Prepared
Before you get in line to use the launching dock, pull over so that you can make a few preparations. By getting ready now, you can minimize the time you spend using the dock and allow others to take their turn sooner. Don your life jacket, attach the tow rope if you’re using one, and perform a final systems check on your PWC. Other preparations to make at this time include applying sunblock, setting up your killswitch, and inserting the drain plug. You can then move on to loosening up the winch straps and safety chains so that your PWC will float when you back it into the water.
Release Your PWC Into the Water
Start your PWC’s engine now just to make sure that you don’t end up getting stalled on the ramp. If there is a line to use the dock, take your place and wait until it's your turn. Once you’ve verified that everything is clear, slowly reverse your trailer into the water. Go back far enough that your PWC starts to float in the water, and then park your vehicle. Next, someone will need to get out and pull the PWC out into the water. If you’re alone, use a rope to tie up your PWC so that it doesn’t drift away. If someone else is helping you, one of you can go park the trailer while the other deals with the PWC.
Pull Away From the Dock
Once you hit water that is three feet deep or deeper, get on your PWC and hit the starter. Maneuver your way out of the docking area, giving others as much space as possible. Wait until you hit open water and then open up on the throttle
